Automatic discounts
Deals that apply by themselves — percent or rupees off, buy X get Y, spend-more-save-more, free delivery above an amount, first-order discount.
What it is
A coupon is a code the customer types. An automatic discount needs no code: when the basket qualifies, the price drops by itself and the customer sees why ("Buy 2 get 1 free", "You saved ₹100").
Types: % off, ₹ off, Buy X get Y (the cheapest items in each group are the free or reduced ones), Spend more, save more (tiers: spend ₹1,000 save ₹100, spend ₹2,000 save ₹250 — the highest tier reached applies), Free delivery above ₹N, First-order discount (only for a customer with no earlier order).
Each one can be limited to chosen products or categories (sub-categories count), need a minimum quantity or minimum order, run between two dates, and stop after a number of uses in total or per customer.
How they combine
One automatic discount per order — the one that saves the customer most — plus a free-delivery rule if one applies, plus one coupon. By default a coupon the customer types suspends the automatic discount for that order (the customer chose the code; the checkout says so). Tick "Let a coupon and an automatic discount apply together" on the Discounts page if you want both.
Where customers see it
Product cards and the product page show a small badge ("10% off", "Buy 2 get 1 free"). The cart line and the checkout show "You saved ₹X" and the discount by name in the price breakdown.
GST and invoices
Every rupee of discount lands on the lines it applies to, so GST is computed on the discounted value, line by line, exactly like coupons. The invoice shows each line's price after discount; the order keeps the automatic discount and the rule names for your reports.
Steps
- Marketing → Automatic discounts → New.
- Name it in words customers will read, pick the type and what it applies to, set limits and dates, Save.
- Switch a deal off any time; orders that already used it keep their price.
