Invoices, credit notes and GST returns
The GST invoice is raised when you mark an order shipped; refunds raise credit notes; export GSTR-1 and 3B monthly.
What it is
Every shipped order gets a numbered GST tax invoice (series ONLINE/…, gapless). A refund or a cancellation after invoicing gets a credit note with its own series. Both are shown under "Tax documents" on the order page, and the customer sees the invoice on their order page.
Steps — monthly return
- Set your GSTIN and state in Settings → General (once).
- Store → GST returns: pick the month, tap Show.
- Download GSTR-1 JSON (for the portal), Working CSV (for your CA) and the GSTR-3B summary. Read the warnings under "Read before uploading".
Common mistakes
- No GSTIN → the JSON button is off; invoices print without a GSTIN. Fine if you are not registered.
- A product with no HSN/GST rate: set it on the product, its category, or the shop default (Listing health lists these).
- Never expect to delete an issued invoice — cancel the order and a credit note is raised instead.
- Not covered: input tax credit, exports/SEZ, e-invoice/IRN, e-way bills, TCS/TDS.
