Counter billing (POS)

Bill walk-in customers fast — scan or search, take cash / UPI / card / credit, print a thermal receipt or A4 invoice, take returns, close the day with a Z report.

What it is

Counter billing (/pos) is the till for a physical shop. It works on a PC, a 10-inch tablet or a phone. Every sale raises a proper GST invoice from the shop's RETAIL series (B2C) — or from the normal invoice series when the buyer gives a GSTIN — records the money, moves stock and, when stock value is tracked, posts the cost of goods sold.

A 10-minute try

  1. Open /pos. Type the cash in the drawer → Start billing.
  2. Scan a barcode (a USB scanner just types the code and presses Enter) or type a product name / SKU and press Enter — the line is added. +/− change the quantity of the highlighted line; F2 jumps back to search; F4 opens payment.
  3. Optional: the customer's phone (creates or links the customer) and a GSTIN for a B2B invoice. Staff with Give discounts at the counter can type a ₹ discount per line, up to the shop's limit (Accounting settings).
  4. Take payment: cash (type what the customer gave → the change is shown), UPI (a QR with the amount filled in appears, from the UPI ID in Accounting settings → Bank; the customer scans it, then mark received), card (mark received), split (UPI + cash), or Credit (pay later) for a known customer — the invoice stays due in receivables.
  5. Complete sale → print 80 mm or 58 mm receipt (browser print, roll printers), or the A4 invoice. Next customer returns to search.
  6. Returns: Today's sales → Return → quantities, refund method (cash from the drawer / UPI / card / credit note only), reason → a credit note is raised against the invoice and the goods go back into stock at their original cost.
  7. Day close: Sessions → counted cash. Expected cash = opening cash + cash sales − change − cash refunds. A difference needs a reason. The Z report (sales, returns, cash/UPI/card/credit, difference) prints to PDF.

Camera scanning on a phone or tablet

Tap 📷 next to the search box. Android Chrome and Edge scan EAN-13, EAN-8, Code 128, UPC-A and QR with the camera; browsers without the BarcodeDetector API show a note — type the code or use a USB/Bluetooth scanner.

Keys

"Counter billing" opens the till, bills, prints, takes returns and closes the cashier's own day. "Give discounts at the counter" allows line discounts. Admins see every session.
